Lets talk cats….
The way we feed our cats is very different from the way we feed dogs. Its not just about ‘how’ we feed, its also ‘what’ we feed. Cats are natural food grazers and like to come and go to their food bowl; whereas dogs that are free fed in this way seem to become less inclined to eat because there is always food available, owners often misinterpret this as dogs going off their food.
There’s one thing that every cat owner should know and that is that cats are ‘true carnivores’ and need to have a meat protein based food, you cannot feed a vegetarian or vegan diet to a cat ever! The reason for that is that meat protein contains an essential amino acid called Taurine, which is essential for cats health. It is critical for normal vision, digestion and heart muscle function and helps maintain a healthy immune system.
There are many dry cat foods on the market that claim they have meat in them but the amount is so small that it doesn’t supply enough taurine. At Grumpy’s we encourage our customers to read labels and it then becomes glaringly obvious that just because a label says Chicken on the front of it, it probably has a very small amount of chicken in it, astonishingly, as little as 4%
